The following instructions are for installing an ITECS printer on a personal computer. For installing a printer on a WOLFTECH Domain-Joined Computer, please check out this page for instructions.
For Windows
- Open the Printers & Scanners window.
- Click the button labeled Add a printer or scanner.
- The Add Printer wizard will now start. Select The Printer that I want isn’t listed option beneath the list of discovered printers. This will open the Add Printer window.
- Select Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname and click Next.
- Set Device type to TCP/IP Device and type in the printer’s full hostname under “Hostname” (the hostname should be found on a label on the printer). Leave Port name and the checkbox below the default.
- You will need to use the full name of the printer, which differs based on department, see the following for examples (where “Hostname is the name labeled on the printer):
- CCEE: hostname.ce.ncsu.edu
- CBE: hostname.che.ncsu.edu
- In the event you are unable to use the full name of the printer you may use the IP address of the printer, which can be found by printing a configuration page.
- You will need to use the full name of the printer, which differs based on department, see the following for examples (where “Hostname is the name labeled on the printer):
- On the “Additional port information required” page, click Next.
- On the “Install the printer driver” page, select the proper driver based on the model of printer. If you do not have one for the model, you will need to download a driver from the manufacturer’s website or use a generic PCL driver. You can find the HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PCL6 for HP printers HERE. Click Next.
- On the “Type a printer name” page, enter what you would like the printer name to be. Typically use the same name as the hostname used above.
- On the “Printer Sharing” page, select Do not share this printer and click Next.
- Click Print a test page to make sure your computer can print. If it cannot, please send an email to eoshelp@ncsu.edu for additional help.
