How To Install A Printer On Your Personal Mac Computer

Hostname/IP Method

  1. Click the Apple menu -> System Preferences.
  2. Click Printers & Scanners.
  3. Click the + button.
  4. Click the IP tab.
  5. In the Address field, enter the printer’s fully qualified domain name (ex. dan204-hp456.eos.ncsu.edu or mann201-hp123.ce.ncsu.edu).
  6. Set the Protocol drop-down to Line Printer Daemon – LPD.
  7. Leave the Queue field empty.
  8. In the Name field, enter the printer’s hostname (found on a label on the printer).
  9. In the Location field, enter the room number and building name. (ex. 204 Daniels)
  10. If the printer driver is not auto-selected, click on the Use drop-down -> Select Software… and select the appropriate driver. If none is available, download the appropriate driver from the website.
  11. Click the Add button.
