KB0019853: AFS home directory migration to NFSv4

This notice is for all users of AFS storage or K: drive for home directory data.

The Office of Information Technology plans to decommission AFS file and home directory storage and remove it from service.  Starting at 8:00a.m. on Dec. 19, 2022, all the files located in your AFS home directory will be moved from AFS to an “_afsmigration” folder on your NCSU drive (sometimes called the B drive on Windows computers or /mnt/ncsudrive on Linux computers). This migration of about 120,000 home directories will continue throughout the week with a target completion date on or before Dec. 23, 2022. Please do not make any changes to your AFS home directory during this time.

We will only be migrating your AFS home directory. Additional AFS volumes mounted under your home directory will not be migrated.

If you experience problems after the migration is complete, please contact your local IT support or email oit_unix@help.ncsu.edu.

OIT will work with your local IT staff to resolve any user accounts that failed to migrate.  Please submit a ticket or send email to oit_unix@help.ncsu.edu.  Please be patient as we work through this migration and support tickets.
