Student Laptop Loan Program

We are proud to introduce the ITECS Student Laptop Loan Program benefiting College of Engineering students.

This program is designed for full-time students currently enrolled in a College of Engineering major (see list below) that need a short term computer loan between 2 and 14 days.  We have a variety of Windows laptops and Chromebooks in different locations to meet the needs of students with temporary issues such as their personal laptop being repaired.  

This program is not intended to be used as a same day loan for purposes such as taking an exam.  Please contact the Library for same-day or one-day loans.

If a student’s laptop is being repaired by the OIT Walk-In Center, they do provide laptop loans during the repair period.  However, if an ITECS Student Laptop Loan is preferred, students are still eligible to borrow from us instead.

Eligibility: 

Students must be a current full time College of Engineering student in one of these majors:

  • Aerospace Engineering (AE)
  • Biological and Agricultural Engineering (BAE)
  • Biomedical Engineering (BME)
  • Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE/CHE)
  • Civil Engineering (CE)
  • Computer Engineering (CPE)
  • Computer Science (CSC)
  • Construction Engineering (CON)
  • Electrical Engineering (EE)
  • Environmental Engineering (ENE)
  • Industrial Engineering (IE)
  • Materials Science and Engineering (MSE)
  • Mechanical Engineering (ME)
  • Nuclear Engineering (NE)
  • Paper Science and Engineering (PSE)
  • Textile Engineering (TE)

Process:

Students requesting a loaner laptop should complete the request form, which will create a ticket for the ITECS Service Desk. A team member will then reach out to the student to verify if the desired computer and accessories are available and if so, set up an appointment at one of our Service Desks that has the items in stock. Appointments last about 15 minutes to test the log-in, review the loan and answer any questions.

Shortly before the scheduled return date, an ITECS Service Desk team member will create an appointment for the student to return the laptop to the same location it was borrowed from.

Upon return, the laptop and peripherals will be checked for functionality and condition and will return to the loaner laptop pool for distribution.

  • Current popular pre-installed software on Lenovos and Dell 2-in-1 laptops include:
    • Adobe Photoshop
    • Ansys Electromagnetics
    • Ansys Fluids and Structures
    • Ansys Granta EduPack
    • Solidworks
    • Matlab
    • Origin
  • Most software licensed and available from the university can be pre-installed before pickup by request
  • Any legitimately licensed software owned by students or freeware can be installed by students

Restrictions:

  • We do not provide loans for same-day or one-day return.
  • We do not provide long-term loans in excess of 2 weeks.
  • We do not currently have Apple laptops in our inventory.
  • Eligibility as a full-time student in the College of Engineering will be verified before loans are approved.
  • We cannot provide data recovery.  All laptops are formatted upon return.
  • To ensure qualified team member availability, we require appointments.  If appointments are not honored, it can prevent future loan opportunities.
  • Following the completion of a loan, you will need to wait 3 weeks before you are eligible for another loan.
