GitHub is a web-based hosting service for software development projects that need to be version controlled. NC State provides this service to ensure the security of university’s repositories and users. Any faculty, staff or student of NC State University is allowed a free account into this service and you can use your account for just about anything related to university academics, research, business, or support.
- Create as many public and private repositories as you need. Public repositories are only “public” to folks at NC State University. If you need to share with a collaborating institution, reach out to us.
- Create GitHub Organizations to store your group’s repositories so that when folks leave, your repositories stay with the organization.
- Site license for all NC State faculty, staff and students. Log in with your Unity ID. Accounts are created automatically when you log in for the first time.
- Upon leaving the University, your repositories will be archived and destroyed. Please collect a copy of all your repositories when you leave.
