Computing Resources

You can access specialized software and computing environments on campus in our computer labs or from anywhere through the Virtual Computing Lab (VCL). To securely connect to university resources off-campus, be sure to use the NC State VPN.

Hardware

Get assistance for university-owned hardware including desktops, peripherals and mobile devices. If you’re a student, we’ll help you install engineering software on your personal device or loan you a laptop while yours is being repaired. You can also use the large format printers in the Fitts-Woolard Hall Computer Lab.

Knowledge Management

Access a comprehensive knowledge management system—maintained in partnership with OIT—that offers a searchable library of solutions, guides and best practices. The NC State University Libraries also provides dedicated support for research and data management. We manage grant data so you can choose which grants to display on your bio page.

Learning

NC State’s campus offers diverse learning opportunities through multiple platforms. You can register for non-credit courses via the Reporter system and you have free access to LinkedIn Learning for professional development. OIT offers training classes on website administration and systems software.

Media

Utilize tools and services to enhance your communication across the university. Engineering Communications can provide direction for unified messaging to your audiences and your local IT communicator can help you find resources within your unit. You can use Billboard, an information management system, to display your content on digital signs.

Network

You have access to three campus networks: eduroam (the preferred secure network for students, staff and faculty), ncsu/Nomad (an open network for devices that can’t connect to eduroam like gaming consoles and smart TVs) and ncsu-guest (a public network for visitors that requires accepting terms and conditions).

Software

Discover and install software from three great sources on campus or review clickwraps. The university provides licensed software that’s available to everyone, while the College of Engineering offers specialized engineering applications. Our IT team also develops custom software solutions tailored specifically for our college’s unique business needs.

Storage

Find secure, reliable storage solutions designed to protect both your institutional and personal files. These services offer peace of mind with automatic backups, robust access controls and flexible sharing options—ensuring your data stays safe, organized and accessible whenever you need it.
