Leadership Assessments

Providing anonymity assurances to get honest feedback on College leadership.

Besides an annual review of administrative performance, all Associate Deans and Department Heads must undergo a comprehensive review every five years. The review process is articulated under Reg 05.50.07 and Reg 05.50.03, respectively.

In both cases, the Dean-appointed Committee must create an evaluation instrument and administer it with assurances to the respondents of anonymity. To assist in this process, Engineering IT usually receives the evaluation instrument and a list of email addresses to be polled. We transfer the instrument and emails into the Qualtrics evaluation software and create the survey announcements and schedule according to dates set by the Committee.

On the agreed launch date, each respondent is supplied with a non-transferable unique survey link.  These links are generated by the Qualtrics software such that no human operator may determine which email address got which link, and they expire at a pre-determined date and time. This ensures that no one involved in the conduct of the survey has access to determine how a specific respondent answered a question.

The hidden coupling of a unique link to an email assures respondents that their answers are anonymous provided that they do not self-identify.  In the case of free form comments, Engineering IT expunges the identifying information before it is forwarded to the Dean, leaving the comment as intact as possible.
