Laptop Loan Program
Need a Laptop? We've Got You Covered! Engineering IT is proud to introduce the Laptop Loan Program benefiting College of Engineering students.
This program offers short-term computer loans (2 to 14 days) for full-time College of Engineering students facing temporary laptop issues, like when your personal device is being repaired. We have a variety of Windows laptops and Chromebooks available at different locations to meet your needs.
This program is not for same-day loans (e.g., for an exam). For those needs, please contact the Library.
Are You Eligible?
To qualify for the Laptop Loan Program, you must be a current, full-time College of Engineering student.
If your laptop is being repaired by the OIT Walk-In Center, you’re still eligible to borrow from us if you prefer our loaner.
Our Loan Process
Getting a loaner laptop is easy! Just follow these steps:
- Submit a Request: Complete our request form to create a ticket with the Engineering IT Service Desk.
- Verify & Schedule: A team member will contact you to confirm availability of the desired computer and accessories. If available, we’ll schedule an appointment for you at one of our Service Desks that has the items in stock.
- Pickup Appointment: Appointments typically last about 15 minutes. We’ll help you test the login, review the loan agreement and answer any questions.
- Return Appointment: Shortly before your scheduled return date, we’ll create an appointment for you to bring the laptop back to the same location you borrowed it from.
- Laptop Check-In: Upon return, we’ll check the laptop and peripherals for functionality and condition, then return them to the loaner pool.
Loan Length: You can borrow a laptop for between two and 14 days.

- Lenovo Legion laptops: Ideal for moderate computing needs.
- Dell Latitude 2-in-1 laptops: Perfect for note-taking or medium-to-low computing tasks.
- Dell Latitude Chromebooks: Great for connecting to web portals like VCL.
- Accessories: We also provide laptop bags/sleeves, wireless mice and styluses.
Pre-Installed Software
Our Lenovo and Dell 2-in-1 laptops come with popular software pre-installed, including:
- Adobe Photoshop
- Ansys Electromagnetics
- Ansys Fluids and Structures
- Ansys Granta EduPack
- Solidworks
- Matlab
- Origin
Need something else? Most university-licensed software can be pre-installed by request before pickup. You can also install any legitimately licensed software you own or freeware.
Important Program Restrictions
To ensure fair access and smooth operations, please keep these restrictions in mind:
- We do not offer same-day or one-day loans.
- We do not provide long-term loans exceeding two weeks.
- We do not currently have Apple laptops in our inventory.
- Your eligibility as a full-time College of Engineering student will be verified before loan approval.
- We cannot provide data recovery. All laptops are formatted upon return.
- Appointments are required to ensure staff availability. Not honoring appointments can affect future loan opportunities.
- After completing a loan, you’ll need to wait three weeks before you’re eligible for another loan.
