University Software

The University Software Management team provides comprehensive licensing and procurement services across campus, including license asset management, contract negotiation and review and purchase compliance oversight. They coordinate site licenses, manage software inventory and handle distribution while working closely with UNC General Administration and campus partners. The team also conducts outreach to assess departmental needs, consolidate licenses for cost savings and ensure all software acquisitions align with University policies and best practices.

Engineering Software

Engineering disciplines rely on specialized software tools that are essential for design, analysis, simulation and project management. Because many of these programs require expensive licenses and have specific system requirements, Engineering has centralized procurement and management for crucial applications. We provide access to these industry-standard tools via direct download, the Virtual Computing Lab or specialized workstations in our computer labs, Hunt Library or D. H. Hill. Engineering IT handles the licensing, distribution and security of these tools.

Custom software addresses unique operational needs that commercial off-the-shelf products cannot adequately meet. Colleges have specialized workflows for departmental operations, including donation monitoring, accreditation preparation assistance, release time calculations, academic event scheduling and staffing that standard software may not support. Custom applications allow us to integrate disparate systems, automate complex administrative processes and create tools tailored to specific business requirements without being constrained by vendor limitations or licensing restrictions.
