What does it mean to be on the Wolftech Domain?

domain contains a group of computers that can be accessed and administered with a common set of rules. For example, a company may require all local computers to be networked within the same domain so that each computer can be seen from other computers within the domain or located from a central server.

University computers must be registered with NC State in university approved domains. For computers managed by ITECS, the primary domain is the Wolftech domain.

Benefits of domain membership include:

  • Automatically installed security patches
  • Software updates
  • Login with your Unity ID and password to every domain member computer you have access to. When you change your Unity password, login with the new password.
  • Simplified remote assistance
  • Software deployments
  • Worry-free enterprise antivirus
  • Compliance with the University’s Endpoint Protection Standard

NCSU computers that are not joined to the Wolftech domain are not eligible for ITECS support unless they have been cleared with a security exception.

  • The primary indicator of a Wolftech joined computer is a label on the device
    • Follows a convention similar to [DEPT]-[DT/LT]-[###]
      • ex.) ITECS-LT-123
  • If a client has un unsupported device with no exception we recommend they either bring the device in for configuration (computer will be wiped) or submit an exception request with OIT.
