This article provides instructions on how to update the TPM for BitLocker after a motherboard replacement. This is required when you have BitLocker enabled on a drive and you have had the motherboard replaced, and on boot-up, you are prompted to re-enter your BitLocker Recovery Key.
- Re-enable and activate the TPM in the BIOS.
- Boot the computer and enter the recovery key.
- Log in with an administrator account.
- Under Control Panel, open the BitLocker applet.
- Click on Manage BitLocker.
- Select suspend BitLocker.
- Restart the computer.
- At this point, you should no longer need to enter the recovery key. After restarting, log in as an administrator once more.
- Go back to Manage BitLocker and re-enable or unsuspend BitLocker. This will update the TPM chip with the correct recovery key.
