Student-Owned Computing: Getting Help

It is never convenient to have computer trouble, but when something does go wrong, we are here to help.

On-Campus Resources

There are three main locations on campus where engineering students can get help from full-time technical staff:

A campus-wide Walk-In Center provides technical support for all NC State students. Walk-in services for the Help Desk are part of the Technology and Media Services Support Center, located in 101 West Dunn Building on the corner of Dan Allen Drive and Thurman Drive. At this location, there are technicians authorized to work on Lenovo, Dell, and Apple computers, as long as the laptops are still under warranty. Even some devices that are not under warranty can be serviced, depending on the situation (e.g., installing a new hard drive). The Walk-In Center can service computers regardless of whether they were purchased through the NC State Bookstore.

Engineering students can also find technical assistance at the two ITECS Service Desks, one on Main Campus (204 Daniels) and one on Centennial Campus (1002 EB1). The ITECS Service Desks support the College of Engineering’s computing environment and its users, including the installation of selected software used in the college. Both ITECS Service Desks are open Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Manufacturers

We have good relationships with the vendors whose models are sold at the campus Bookstore and can assist in escalating or expediting the service they provide.

Even if your computer is out of warranty, no matter where you bought it or what type of computer it is, we will provide you with as much help and diagnostic information as we can to help you get up and running again.
