Phishing Email
Phishing is an attempt to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card information (and sometimes, indirectly, money) by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication (e.g. emails).
Students, staff, and faculty may receive emails from an entity claiming to represent NC State, requesting an individual’s Unity ID, Unity password, and/or other personal, sensitive information. These phishing attempts may contain links to websites that are infected with malware or may capture the individual’s credentials if input into a form on the site. If you receive an email that appears suspicious, please forward it to phishing@ncsu.edu. Our security team will take further action to block these types of emails.
Here is an example of a phishing email:
Dear Customer,
Your email account has exceeded its storage limit as set by our Administrator. Please, Re-Validate your account to avoid suspension. Please click on the link below to Re-Validate your account.
Click here <http://mainoutlookupgrada.webatu.com>
